Le Fontenay Nature Park

Nature at your doorstep…

Le Domaine de Fontenay has its own 300ha nature park with bubbling streams and waterfalls, spectacular views of the Bay of Diego, the Indian Ocean, and the Mozambique Channel, and well-maintained and marked trails for the discovery and enjoyment of its flora and fauna.

Access to this park is free of charge to our resident-guests. However, we do recommend a guided walk with a professional Malagasy guide for a nominal fee. Night guided walks during the summer (from mid-September to April) offer additional and rewarding discoveries.

Of the two species of diurnal lemurs common to the region, Sanford ’s Brown is seen more often. Crowned Lemurs are more easily seen during the letchi and mango season in Dec/Jan/Feb. Nocturnal varieties such as the Greater Dwarf, Grey Mouse & Northern Sportive are found all year round with peaks in the summer.

"...Many bird species found at Amber Mountain are more easily seen here because the terrain, whilst being in a dense rain forest region, is more open and has views onto the canopy..."
